Coronavirus outbreak at a tennis exhibition with limited players and a region with no covid. How are sports possible in a nation that has no grip on the virus? By assuming everyone gets it and will be fine. Which isn’t how this virus always works. https://twitter.com/alexzverev/status/1275031791263535105
What are the assumptions being made by those in charge of pro and college sports here? So far from what we’ve seen of outbreaks in college football and MLB, we haven’t been able to prevent transmission. But leagues are pressing on with plans.
Adults who sign contracts can assess the risks when they have good information. Revenue-generating college players shouldn’t even be asked given the inherent inequity of the college sports structure.
What happens when these leagues move ahead and someone gets very sick or dies? This is a very real possibility if there is no plan it ability to prevent illness. Are people just assuming it’ll be fine and that it’s a cruel trade off for your fantasy team?
Watching this unfold is just very grim. Turns out returning to play and expecting it all to be fine isn’t a strategy.
