1. The UK, with one of the worst death rates in the world, is still not wearing masks. The UK public is less likely to believe masks are effective, which is presumably the result of the UK government's messaging.
2. The govt advice is still bad. Face coverings are required on public transport but there's no recommendation for shops, offices and schools (which are riskier). The govt positively recommends *against* masks in schools! https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-implementing-protective-measures-in-education-and-childcare-settings/coronavirus-covid-19-implementing-protective-measures-in-education-and-childcare-settings#personal-protective-equipment-ppe-including-face-coverings-and-face-masks
3. The govt tells people not to wear medical grade PPE and instead to make your own mask from a T-shirt. We've had 6 months of C19 and the world's 6th largest economy and 9-10th biggest manufacturer can't organise enough PPE for its public and the health system.
4. The govt should get people wearing masks in all public places and in workplaces and schools. The govt should promote and scale the most effective masks (N95, surgical masks and best-in-class reusable masks). The govt should fund RCTs to further refine PPE use.
AFAICT, you can now buy medical quality surgical masks from Boots (biggest UK pharmacy) for 50p each.
