Hearing a lot of people talk about how applying and receiving funding takes too long at @CIVIC_SQUARE #Re_Festival so a lot of smaller orgs don't even bother going for it.

I definitely feel this, I've also avoided funding in the past because I valued my agility over the cash..
.. But when I was working on #FutureJobcentre I decided I needed to try and get something to get the work to where I needed it to be so I factored funding into its development and even though I ended up getting some funding the time it took to go through that process..
.. was so long that I lost all my momentum. The people who were there helping me moved on to other things, it was difficult to maintain the sense of urgency that I'd created and by the time I got the money all of us were in different places...
.. I ended up giving the money back because by the time I had it it just wasn't viable for me to work on the project anymore. I understand that with larges amounts of money due diligence needs to be done but in my example I'm talking about £2500.
.. If I could have accessed an amount like that quickly then maybe the project would still be going.

Funders should think about how they can streamline the process of getting small amounts of money into time critical projects that often grow organically.
.. Also just pay people to do shit. What #FutureJobcentre needed in the early days more than anything was me being able to invest time into it but as a freelancer I couldn't give it the time it needed without being able to make some money. It was VERY...
... easy to apply for money for things I didn't need like equipment etc but impossible to get money to pay myself so I could put time aside to work on the project. This makes it super hard for people without a lot of money or a job thats paying them to be able to work on stuff.
