We're going LIVE in a few minutes! Catch our resident hija @kakiep83 on #RapplerTalk here:
. @kakiep83 on Lucban Municipal Police Station’s now-deleted post telling women not to wear short clothes to avoid sexual violence: It was specifically alarming because it’s an official organization, it’s the police station saying that.

#RapplerTalk:
. @kakiep83: You go there to feel safe, to feel secured. The very institution that’s tasked to keep us safe is exactly what turned it around and blamed the victim.

#RapplerTalk:
. @kakiep83: Every facet of our established institutions, we’re all kind of accepting and tolerant when they don’t function for us. To a certain extent, that makes Pinoys very adaptable but that also makes it easier for people who want to abuse that power.
. @kakiep83 on Ben Tulfo’s response to her tweets: It was so weird that it was targeted. There were so many people who shared my perspective. And it wasn’t even my opinion that I was providing. Don’t blame the victim. That’s [a matter of] moral.
. @kakiep83: It’s so weird to be singled out on a matter of principle like that because I’m not the only one who thinks like this, right? This should be the widely accepted thing.

#RapplerTalk:
. @kakiep83: And the fact that he was like “hija.” It’s like, “you’re a small little girl”, “you don’t know what you’re talking about.” But again it wasn’t just me providing an opinion. To me that was "it".

#RapplerTalk:
. @kakiep83: You simply can’t expect everyone to be as socially aware. Our biggest problem is poverty. How can we expect Filipinos to be constantly socially aware to the highest extent when their biggest worry is their next meal, not “am I being politically correct?”
. @kakiep83 on educating people: We need to have more patience and compassion.

#RapplerTalk:
. @kakiep83: Girls, no matter what we wear, we’re already scared. When my mom tells me “cover up muna” she doesn’t mean as it’s my fault, she just means that as a protective mom, on the side of caution. That’s what it is at this point.

#RapplerTalk:
. @kakiep83: But let’s stop blaming the victims, let’s start teaching people more.

#RapplerTalk:
. @kakiep83 on educating herself about issues: Having dad in the house is a big help. He influenced my childhood significantly. I did in fact grow up in a bubble. I feel like I’ve been in this sort of middle. I belong to the more privileged side.
. @kakiep83 on educating herself about issues: But the thing is because of my dad and my mom, and who they are, their principles, it was always ingrained in us as kids to be socially aware.

#RapplerTalk:
. @kakiep83 on the attention she’s been getting online: I’m not doing anything special. That’s why I guess some people like to listen. I tend to be less filtered on social media platforms.

#RapplerTalk:
. @kakiep83: With #HijaAko happening, that wasn’t me, I said it once but the stories of the women are what catapulted it. I gave the wording, and that was it.

#RapplerTalk:
. @kakiep83: It’s my privilege that has allowed me to be educated to this extent. In itself I think more of my privilege was that awareness. There’s a certain amount of that privilege that made me more aware.

#RapplerTalk:
. @kakiep83 shares, "Music and writing are my #1 passion."

#RapplerTalk:
. @kakiep83 on serving people through art: A couple weeks ago I was really upset, but then I realize – if you're saying that your art is not going to be worth the same or if your art is not going to contribute enough, you're not only invalidating yourself, but also other artists.
. @kakiep83 on the privilege of being a daughter of a singer and a politician: Wherever my art gets, I want to make sure that I worked for it as hard as I could. I know that the privilege will always be there but as much as possible I want it to be work that I did.
