8 Esoteric Steps to a Healthy Diet, a thread on Deep Nutrition:

1. Avoid unhealthy fats/seed oils
- canola
- corn
- cottonseed
- grape seed
- sunflower
- safflower
- rice bran
- soy

Read all ingredients, or better yet, cook from scratch yourself.

2. Control carbs based on your personal health/ goals, and avoid sugar + refined flour.

You might have seen my tweet about my disdain for the food pyramid.

I’m a firm believer in the idea that metabolically unhealthy people shouldn’t eat lots of carbs.
3. Low fat/ fat free is a joke.

Most of the time, the fat is replaced with sugar or other heavily processed ingredients.

You also *do* need fat in your diet.
4. Eat eggs, butter, cheese, whole milk.

This doesn’t mean that you should be drinking 36 raw eggs a day like @TheJoshNewtonJr, but organic/ pasture raised eggs have tons of health benefits.
5. Eat your veggies with a fat.

Learned this one from an eating disorder therapist. It helps your body absorb the nutrients.
6. Lumping “fruits and veggies” together was a mistake, you should be eating more vegetables than fruits.

Fruit is a dessert or a preworkout aid.
7. Buy or make bone broth. Too many health benefits to list- this is one of the few “miracle” foods out there.

If you can, learn to make it yourself.

You can also buy it premade in the soup isle of most stores.

@p3rzeus has tweeted about this.
8. Eat probiotic rich/fermented foods.

Real yogurt, kefir, pickles, sauerkraut, kimchi.

The Ancient Egyptians were believers in bowl movements being an indicator of health- the Pharoah has someone to check his stool.

Lesson in there.
If you don’t know where to start, you should buy a copy of Deep Nutrition.

You can find it on Amazon, it explains why eating traditional foods is important.
