As football returns there is a growing racist backlash against the #BlackLivesMatter movement in parts of European football.

Some of the things taking place are shocking.

11 June: Czech second league, Zbrojovka Brno fans display a large banner ‘UltrasLivesMatter’ with a Confederate flag next to it.

The stadium was not open to fans but they gathered behind the fence and unfurled the banner from the fence.

14th June: Czech top league, Viktoria Plzen striker @JDavid_Beauguel was racially abused by Sigma Olomouc fans.

The echo of monkey chants reverberated around a stadium with a few hundred fans. The game was not stopped, the Czech FA fined Sigma a mere €4500.

Jean-David Beauguel took to social media posting a video of the abuse and calling for change. He faced a stream of racist comments and messages.

17 June: Joel Kayamba a Congolese midfielder also of Plzen is abused by Sparta Prague ultras.

The Sparta banner reads ‘White Lives Matter.’

They later release a statement condemning “crimes against indigenous people in Europe overlooked”.

By indigenous they mean white.

In the Netherlands 🇳🇱 fans of Den Haag and Feyenoord were seen at a protest displaying banners reading ‘All Lives Matter’ and ‘anti-antifa.’

In Ukraine, football hooligans in Kyiv and Kharkiv were linked with racist graffiti featuring KKK hoods.

The messages read ‘White Lives Matter’ and ‘Black Lives Don’t Matter’.

In Kharkiv, KKK silhouettes on graffiti include a visual reference to Donald Trump.

The Ukrainian cup semi-final on June 17 saw fans of second league FC Minaj displaying a banner that read: ‘Free Derek Chauvin’.

It refers to the policeman who killed George Floyd.
