I'm struck by the (lack of) presence across social media of the major party youth wings in Australia.

On Twitter, Young Labor has just over 3000 followers, Young Liberals just over 4000.
Ok, I thought: "young people aren't so interested in Twitter. They'll be much more active on Instagram".

Nope.
Just under 2200 in total.

Or, to put it another way: less than my 15-year old daughter.
And, here's the situation at state level, also including Facebook, as of October 2019.
Ah, you might say: "You need to look at the individual leaders of the youth wings".

Ok, here are the figures for the state youth wing leaders of both major parties in 2018 and 2019:
In other words: If she were leader of a state-based youth wing, my 15-year old have been the most followed on Instagram in the country last year and the second-most in 2018:
(that last one is so going to be a cheeky footnote when I eventually write this book on Australian youth wings)
