@ oomfs who’ve never spoken aave or have never lived in a community who has spoken it:

AAVE is a language. it has its own grammatical rules that are different from Standard American English and if you are going to speak it you need to use the language correctly. if you wouldn’t misuse words from your native language then don’t misuse words from AAVE.

if you are white like myself you have to acknowledge the privilege that comes from being able to speak it without judgement. i have countless stories from growing up in a AAVE speaking community where my black peers were punished for the same language i was using.

educate yourself and give credit where credit is due. words like “periodt”, “chile”, “bae”, “finna”, and etc are not slang, but come from AAVE and you need give respect to a language that started in slavery.
