Back in the day a lot of Healers used animals to heal, channel, fix, getting messages or sending them somewhere.

There are very few healers I know who use animals for ukuhlola currently.

I will share very famous few animals that are used in our spirituality as our Spirituality includes the use of animals and spirit animals.

These animals are known as AMABIKA

*A Chicken, chickens are normally used mainly for spiritual healing purposes, and also for awakening ancestral and other foreign spirits to have power infact, idlozi le Ndau is the one that uses chickens the most.

*Tortoise , it was used in the past for protection purposes and as a cure/ solution to create a long life however in SA it is illegal to keep it or a tortoise as a pet.

*Python it is one of  (good luck animal) that is accepted without condition , this kind of a snake can be a domestic pet and it mostly like by amadlozi enhlanhla for attracting umnotho without using any muti on it.

*Buffalo, this type of animal is mostly favourable to certain ancestors belonging to the Batswana and Amahlubi people, if you dream of them, it simply identifies your clan as others are not mentioned here, or idlozi lengwenza . And Its horns were used for protection as well.

*Lionand Leopard, these are types of wild animals that were used by Amakhosi and Ancestrally these animals mostly comes on our dreams and symbolises the sign of Royalty, Dignity and Power and if one have plenty of this dreams is likely to be having a Spiritual calling or ubizo.

*A Cow, was used as to accompany certain elderly people who have passed on to their spirit family, its skin was used as a corpse wrap not to be placed in a coffin, it is also used unite/ welcome and also to cleanse amathongo namadlozi asekhaya.

*A Goat is mostly used by the Nguni ancestral spirits (Amadlozi esintu) from  almost all over Africa especially when performing some ancestral ritual ceremonies.
