Rick Riordan is fucking amazing for many reasons, but in this thread, I will be stating three reasons total.
1) The ethnic representation in his books!! We've got characters from so many different nationalities!! I don't rly remember much, so I could be wrong but here we go. We could start with Nico. Little Italian man,(italian heritage maybe, I don't remember if he was born there too).
We've got Piper, who has Native American descent. We've got Alex Fierro who is Latinx. Frank is Chinese. Hazel is African American. Leo is Hispanic. Blitzen and Beckendorf are black (sorry don't know exact nationality). Reyna and Hylla have Puerto Rican roots.
Samirah is Arab American. This is really cool because not only did he incorporate these characters, but he made them into protagonists too! Piper, Leo, Hazel and Frank are part of the Seven! Nico and Reyna have their own very important quest and they also narrate their parts!
2) LGBTQ+ representation!! Though we don't see it much in the first few books, it was always there since the beginning with Nico again, his first character to come out as gay. As we know, Will Solace is also gay (or at least likes men). Also, Alex Fierro is genderfluid.
Hemithea and Josephine are a lesbian couple. Magnus Chase is either bi or pan, so is Apollo. Hyacinthus, gay. Loki, genderfluid. Hestia, Artemis, ace and aromantic. And there is a character in PJ's Greek Gods that's a trans girl. Sipriotes or something like that.
He was not afraid to add this representation and he made sure to be consistent with it. He did not mention it once to be politically correct and done. No, he took the time to do his research and make them into what LGBTQ+ characters ARE. NOT stereotypes.
3) He took two things that everyone else saw as disabilities and turned them into STRENGTHS. Dyslexia and ADHD. He made sure his readers knew that they were important for the survival of demigods.
The dyslexia is because their brains are hardwired for ancient greek. It helps them because while reading might be tedious, they are actually hardwired to understand another language altogether. To read and comprehend it.
And the ADHD helps them with their battle reflexes. It keeps them awake and it keeps them alive. As stated in the first book, the reason why they have a hard time focusing isn't because they see too little, it's because they see too much.
Also, Hearthstone is a deaf character. He is mistreated because of this by his family, but then he finds people who accept him and learn sign language and become his new family. His lack of hearing doesn't become a problem for them. But it's there and acknowledged.
And, I know I said three, but I find the need to mention that he also incorporated a muslim girl, Samirah. And he didn't just 'okay she's muslim' NO. He did his research, he read about the religion, the traditions and wrote them into the story. The prayers, Ramadan, faith.
And, it should also be included that Magnus is an atheist too. None of the characters are stereotypical. They are all treated as normal too, there is no special treatment to any character because of their race, religion or sexual orientation.
Another fun fact is that Grover is a vegetarian. It doesn't change anything about his personality, he just is. Also, I forgot to mention him but I think Carter Kane (Kane Chronicle protagonist) is also African American.
Anyway Rick Riordan gave so much representation, it's almost impossible to read his books and not feel validated, not feel like you could easily fit in with them.
There's about a thousand other things I could say, but I don't want to stretch this too much, so here we may stop. Anyway, read Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus, Magnus Chase, Kane Chronicles and Trials of Apollo and stan Rick Riordan
