my elementary school was HELLA RACIST!!!! me and my siblings look back on it and joke bc we ain’t realize it then but damn.......they basically ran that shit like a prison and did not care for its students

it was predominantly black and like 97% of the teachers were white. until 1st grade the principal could get parent permission to beat students with a paddle the kids weren’t even bad!! the teachers just weren’t equipped to work with neurodivergent black kids

the few black teachers (literally only 3) were treated badly. nearly all my classmates were in ISS for small shit and went around the school picking up trash in the bathrooms as “detention” like who TF gives an 11 year old detention????

it was all uniform. out of uniform=ISS. couldn’t wear hoodies. doesn’t matter if you were cold. the jackets had to have no hoods and they had to be in school colors. walk on the second tile with a bubble in your mouth. if you didn’t=ISS.

cafeteria food was soggy. kids with allergies weren’t warned about food (my lil sis went to the hospital bc of a reaction and i got sick multiple times ) and the custodians (nearly ALL BLACK) were treated like shit as well as the chefs

not to mention the indoctrination every Veterans Day assembly it was REQUIRED that you participated. again, didn’t comply=ISS. everyday we said the pledge to the American flag and Georgia flag, sang (yes, SANG!!) the national anthem, and on Friday’s it was all that plus

the Georgia state anthem. like I said, indoctrination all “lessons” in racism literally made it seem like “the slaves were happy to be slaves” and “that the good white people freed them!! yay!!!” and that was it for black history except some drawings of MLK and Rosa Parks

LMAO!! NOT TO MENTION AROUND THANKSGIVING THEY LITERALLY DRESSED UP THE PRE-K KIDS IN “Indian clothing” WITH PAPER PLATE MARACAS AND MADE THEM HAVE A “Pow Wow” I CANNOT MAKE THIS SHIT UP YALL IM SERIOUS!!!!

Was “teaching” shit like “the Native Americans gave up their land and split turkey to the Pilgrims bc they were fwends :))))” like LIE AGAIN!!!!! Had ‘cutesy’ caricatures of the Indigenous people of this land like wtf

there’s also how they made us pay money to wear jeans on select fridays and the money was supposed to go towards fundraising for the school yet we never got updated anything

i already talked about my 5th grade field trip to the slave’s quarters and how the (white) tour guide thought it was #cute to revise history and tell us—a bunch of black kids—how happy the slaves were and passed around a cotton gin and joked about us picking cotton. yes im pissed

there’s definitely a lot more shit that happened at that school but i can’t recall everything off the top of my head rest assured I’ll be back to add more stuff tho

WAIT I JUST REMEMBERED HOW THEY TREATED US FOR READING!!! i love to read right?? but we had specific grade levels that we were forced to read at. my classmates were called “idiots” and had other derogatory terms about their intelligence thrown at them

because of the reading levels they were FORCED to be on!! i remember being in 1st grade and fighting with my teacher about letting me check out a book that was like 4 years above my grade level. basically it was an insult to my intelligence and one thing about me

is that insulting my intelligence is the quickest way to get popped. ion play that. it took so much convincing and crying (to which the assistant teacher insulted me but that’s another convo ) for me to check it out. long story short i passed the AR test

and was able to check out “advanced books” with a permission slip (which the old white lady in the library WOULDNT ACCEPT BUT THATS ANOTHER STORY). i would use the slip for my friends who weren’t allowed to bc they were “stupid” so that they could read as much

as they wanted to. surprised I never got caught but damn...talk about elitism and tokenism

some more things i remembered: my white music teacher would make us sing freedom songs and tap dance in class she was like “you need to boom boom CLAT! get it together” like lady leave me ALONE!!!

also some more field trip reminders! since GA is big on agriculture they would have us in fields picking crops for fun a group of black kids out in the hot Georgia sun picking crops as a field trip. let that sink in
