/ 5 Walking through rural town I now call home, with my friend - both us identify as WOC and celebrate our cultural heritage. Two store fronts have Golliwogs displayed. One is a craft store the other a dog treat store.
/ 5...For me these dolls are a symbol and messages that cultural difference is up for ridicule! There is nothing fricking nostalgic , quaint or benevolent about Golliwogs -
/5... and I cannot accept that communities in Australia can still excuse them as being just traditional dolls or toys ...with innocent intent! Golliwogs represent racist and colonial values. #symbolsofracism #golliwogs
/5... There is no hope in hell that I will ever walk into or support a store that thinks fighting for their right to display Golliwogs is the right kind of fight for a community to have! And... #racisminaustralia
/5... expressing your right to display Golliwogs as a kind of protest against what you perceive as ‘political correctness’ while you tell those of us who are offended by Golliwogs to get over it and be silent- is white privilege! #racism
