1. These videos on cow slaughter in India were sent to me in a thread where I spoke in favor of re-opening liquor shops in Kashmir (as well as re-opening the movie cinemas bombed by Jihadis). I think the logic is that if Hindus don't want beef, Kashmiris shouldn't have liquor. https://twitter.com/chinesearmy911/status/1274688951584948224
3. Back to cow slaughter. Vigilantism is wrong, period. No one has the right to take the law into their own hands. Yet it happens in developing countries (& even in the US). With smartphones, internet & social media, we see the extent of the problem. Gov't must address ASAP.
4. But to draw a connection between "increasing" cow lynching by "Hindus against Muslims" to the Modi/BJP gov't is false, and not substantiated by data analysis, only by journalism porn.
5. The first video link is by Quint, who had called Kulbushan Jadhav an Indian spy, then retracted the story. One writer, Suprateek Chatterjee, wished death on Modi & was fired. So hardly a reliable source. However if the people interviewed are as crazy as they seem, arrest them.
6. The second clip, by Vox, conflates so many issues, then falsely ties it to BJP by using fancy video & infographics. But the data is from Indiaspend, using a methodology that has been widely debunked. Here is Indiaspend’s absurd methodology on cow lynching figures.
7. So what's wrong with that? It relies a Google search, and that too in English! That leaves out a ton of incidents reported in Hindi and other languages. Anand Ranganathan pointed out several other problems with their methodology. https://twitter.com/ARanganathan72/status/879951820658843648
8. The poor methodology falsely makes it appear that the numbers rose after Modi, but that's not true. That's because the video mixes crimes of cattle smuggling & illegal slaughterhouses into incidents of cow lynch mobs. An example of illegal slaughter. https://twitter.com/swati_gs/status/1261554988796407808?s=20
9. An example of cattle smuggling. https://twitter.com/rajshekharTOI/status/1127217264644673537?s=20
10. An example of cattle thieves that led to murder. https://twitter.com/swati_gs/status/1172144109739372544?s=20
11. Yet these cases don't make it to Indiaspend's database, and thus are not included by Vox. https://twitter.com/swati_gs/status/1156148553443500033?s=20
12. Even policemen have been killed by the cow smugglers. No, Indiaspend is not reporting this data either. https://twitter.com/swati_gs/status/1069989113934372865?s=20
13. The Vox video even gripes about the government's aggressive efforts against "illegal slaughterhouses". That's because they're illegal! We don't need Wuhan animal markets in India.
14. Bottom line: anyone involved with or justifying a lynch mob, a "gau-rakshak", or the police who may be colluding – arrest them all. But do not combine cattle smuggling & illegal slaughterhouse incidents under Hindu-Muslim incidents. And
15. do not exclude figures of Muslim vs Muslim crimes, or Muslim vs Hindu crimes related to cattle. In fact, when you look at all the data and not cherry pick like Vox & Indiaspend's did, there is no data to support increasing incidents that are tied to Modi.
