The American Dream is a lie for Black people in America.

Get a degree:

Black Americans have to get two more levels of education to reach the same chance of employment as their white counterparts, and to get there, they must accrue nearly twice as much debt as white graduates.
Even with that costly education and that burden of debt, the net worth of Black families with a COLLEGE GRAD is $25,900, half that of white families led by a high school dropout. $40,258 overall, the lowest median household income of all races in America. (source - @USATODAY)
2nd tenet

Get a job:

There‘s outright discrimination in the labor market. “Resumes w/ white sounding names get twice as many callbacks as identical resumes w/ Black sounding names.” We‘re also often left out of high paying jobs, shouldering crippling debt with meager incomes.
Black men earn 70.2 cents for every dollar earned by white men. It’s worse for Black women, of whom 84.4% are the breadwinners in their family: 61.9 cents for every dollar earned by white men, and twice as likely to be unemployed than white women. 3rd tenet

Buy a house:

Gains in Black homeownership since the fair housing act of 1968 (after MLK’s assassination) have vanished. Crippling debt, predatory lending, discrimination combined with a paucity of generational wealth make Black homeownership the lowest in America.
4th tenet

Build a family:

What most people didn’t realize when Trump started separating kids at the border is that America’s been in the business of separating families of people of color for CENTURIES, with Africans being transported here and then again at the auction block.
Millions of Black husbands, wives, parents, children were torn apart for 250 YEARS. Slavery is “gone” but the 13th amendment loophole continued Black family separation with disproportionate mass incarceration of Black males in America. 34% in prison out of 6% of the population.
I was in the process of writing a song and got to thinking about the American Dream and started looking it up and

“the ideal by which equality of opportunity is available to any American, allowing the highest aspirations and goals to be achieved.”

It’s not even a pipe dream.
That success is achieved through sacrifice and hard work *rather than by chance* is the ultimate gaslight. In other words, white people, would you choose to be Black in America?
