I’ve said this on stage on many occasions but I will say it again:

Progressive spaces are JUST as ableist as conservative ones.

But when it comes from progressives it honestly hurts me more. Because you openly strive for inclusion and diversity... just not for *us* https://twitter.com/tedlieu/status/1274802232009953280
When spaces are just full of bigotry of all sorts, it hurts but I can sort of compartmentalize. I can tell myself it’s an issue with THEM & not with me. THEY just have a ridiculously narrow & exclusionary view.

But when it’s a space that claims to value diversity and inclusion?
There’s no way to compartmentalize that. Then it’s clear that *I’m* specifically unwelcome, unwanted, and unvalued. That you want to include everyone... but not me. I’m a bridge too far, even for you who trumpted the high moral value of “inclusion.”

So yes. That hurts far more.
