The truth is, I grew up in the LDS church. But by the time I was old enough to know more about the world, and myself, I ceased any communication or relationship with the LDS church. I have watched from the shadows as LGBTQ people suffer at the hands of LDS policy.
Seeing all the pain and struggling for acceptance, for a measly acknowledgement that we are more alike than we are different, I grew bitter, and eventually my bitterness formed into a cold, constant rage, always waiting just below the surface for any sign of oppression.
Now, as people share their queer testimony, I can only tell you that you must make decisions that honor your own life on your own terms. Unfortunately, it is clear LDS policy will never treat you as an equal. Live your life for yourself, or regret it until you die.
You have a choice to make: choose yourself, your own sovereignty and power, your own self-worth. Or be subjugated, othered, treated as less-than by the organizations that are homophobic (and in most cases, also clearly racist and pro-colonialism).
