Being a part of the xbox destiny pvp community has shown me the darkest this community has to offer over the years. Partnered streamers playing with known dossers, I've watched my friends get doxxed, ransomed to keep themselves and their families safe.
I've heard many stories of people having to video themselves write things on their foreheads or cut themselves to have their internet brought back online. When I was going for my Not Forgotten, during the high comp/low comp time, a partnered streamer was playing with someone
who just had an issue with me just because I'm a girl and an average pvp player. During the entire game, I was spammed with messages saying they wished my mother died of cancer (she had just survived breast cancer), that they want to cut my tits off and hang them on their mantle
and many other comments. When I messaged this partnered streamer his reply was, 'I'm just trying to get my recovs done'. I've had people create twitter accounts threatening to expose nudes of me (there's no way they actually had access to any) then harass me on that account.
This type of behaviour is widely known in the pvp community. Discord servers where they pass IP addresses, share nudes and people's personal information that they've obtained from doing recovs. People have become complacent, shrug and choose self preservation over betterment.
I chose a long time ago to not give in to that toxicity. I've been held offline for banning people in my stream, refusing to play with them. Over a 3 month period, someone created 75+ twitch alt accounts to harass me on, sending a few in each day on top of 15-20 alt xbox accounts
This is so common, I keep my viewer list open at all times so I can ban them before they even get a word off in my stream. I, like many women in the community have suffered horrendous sexual abuse and harassment in my lifetime. I want to share my story and stand with the
amazing and courageous women in this community, but I don't know what the worst people in the pvp side will do with that information. Thank you to all of the amazing and brave women in this community for sharing your stories. I am reading them all.
I believe you, and I'm here for you any way I can be. The only way this cycle stops is when we not only insist on excellence from ourselves and the people we associate with, but we demand it.
