how come the only black people we learn about in history classes is MLK and george washington carver?? i love peanut butter and all but i would have loved to learn more about poc. we’re taught that mostly white ppl make history but that’s just not true.
let’s change that?? i know that colleges offer more focused history courses, but we as students should not have to pay to learn about REAL history
the amount of times i have learned that the curriculum in primary/secondary schools was taught inaccurately/with censorship is ridiculous! the first step to raising supportive humans is through EDUCATION, and america is doing it wrong.
i didn’t learn accurate history of hawaii until i flew my ass to hawaii and took a hawaiian class at a hawaiian university by a hawaiian professor. it shouldn’t have to be that way! i learned more about how to be an ally to all humans in one semester than in my entire life.
this thread is a series of thoughts i have had in my privileged life. i didn’t recognize the flaws in history education until i was in high school. i can’t imagine being a poc learning only white american history...
