Podcast idea #46203: Discussing the films and careers of women labeled "difficult," "dumb," or "bad actresses" by the industry. https://twitter.com/ephwinslow/status/1274726842931560448
Linda Fiorentino - Well regarded in features like THE LAST SEDUCTION (which is great!) and was in blockbusters like MEN IN BLACK. It's claimed Tommy Lee Jones demanded she be fired for reasons unknown. She's never given interviews on the subject so the men have the last word.
Anne Hathaway - Won an Oscar which was apparently a problem. In a 2012 article by Alexis Rhiannon she wrote that something about Hathaway just "rubbed [her] the wrong way."
Halle Berry - Director Dominic Sena claimed when she made SWORDFISH she demanded $500,000 to go topless because how dare an Oscar-winning actress ask so much money to expose herself for a six-second scene of gratuitous nudity.
Lindsay Lohan - Has Lindsay made trouble for herself, yes? But when she was making LIZ & DICK she was worked 20 hours a day and ended up in the hospital for exhaustion. SAG had to get involved and cite the production for harmful work environment.
Olivia de Havilland - Took on Warners in 1943 citing that the studio contracts Hollywood put stars under was a form of indentured servitude. The de Havilland decision would change the way studios kept stars contractually bound to them.
Katherine Heigl - Seth Rogen repeatedly badmouthed Heigl while he was promoting KNOCKED UP. She later admitted she didn't know what she did but publicly apologized to him several times so he'd quit talking bad about her.
Ashley Judd - One of several women blackballed by Harvey Weinstein. Both Peter Jackson and Terry Zwigoff admitted they wouldn't cast her (or actress Mira Sorvino) in projects because they'd heard both "were a nightmare to work with." Hmm, wonder who said that?
Dorothy Dandridge - Got into a Svengali-like relationship with married/older director Otto Preminger who controlled her and her career. She became pregnant with his child and the studio forced her to have an abortion.
Sean Young - Made fun for campaigning to be Catwoman by dressing up in costume. Replaced in Dick Tracy for allegedly refusing to sleep with Warren Beatty. James Woods, yes James Woods, called her crazy.
Ida Lupino - Regularly suspended by her home studio for refusing to do the films she wanted. Studied directing during these suspensions and became a leading woman director in the studio era.
Marilyn Monroe - The poster child for "difficult," "dumb" and "bad actress." Sexually harassed regularly, suspended for refusing to take on bad roles. Tony Curtis openly said she wasn't a good actress. She worked after suffering miscarriages.
Veronica Lake - Sexually harassed by Fredric March. March called I MARRIED A WITCH "I Married a Bitch." While pregnant tripped over a cord on set and lost the baby.
Salma Hayek - Forced to film a same-sex love scene with full frontal nudity in order to get her passion project FRIDA made. Threatened with violence by Harvey Weinstein, who was the key producer of the film.
Gonna add a few more because why not.

Lupe Velez - Considered the "lesser" Latina actress of the Golden Era in contrast to the classier Dolores del Rio. Called crazy, "fiery." Mocked by Kenneth Anger as dying in her toilet bowl.
Rita Moreno - Forced to wear darkened makeup on WEST SIDE STORY when she was the only actual Latina in the cast. Often ignored by her white costars.
Elizabeth Berkely - Criticized by Joe Eszterhas in his autobiography as being dumb and having given sexual favors in order to be cast in SHOWGIRLS. Later went on to singlehandedly blame her for the commercial failure of the film.
Shannon Doherty - Alleged by Jason Priestley in his memoir for being a diva. Written out of the show, allegedly because of (depending who you ask) her being a diva and/or being more popular than the other actresses.
Sharon Stone - Did a full frontal nude scene under false pretenses as director Paul Verhoven lied to her about where the camera was. Later mocked for demanding sex scenes be a certain way in the sequel. Despite being an A-list actress had to fight for equal pay.
Gonna throw in a director because this happens there, too.

Penelope Spheeris - Mike Meyers openly discussed how much he hated working with her and got her removed from directing WAYNE'S WORLD 2.
Kathleen Turner - Regularly harassed by male costars. Burt Reynolds made her cry. Unnamed actor she worked with openly bit her during a scene.

Esther Williams - Routinely put in dangerous work situations while filming. Broke her neck and nearly paralyzed after a stunt gone wrong that she warned her director about.
Natalie Wood - Compelled into a relationship with director Nicholas Ray when she was just fifteen. Allegedly raped by Kirk Douglas.
Lisa Bonet - Allegedly blackballed by Bill Cosby for doing nudity and playing a sexualized character in ANGEL HEART. He called her rebellious.
