This weekend was the @vademocrats convention and I am sad to report that it was marred with voting fraud that should invalidate all of the elections held. (Thread)
Contested elections at this convention were held for members of the DNC for the next four years as well as the 2 at large members of the electoral college for Virginia should Joe Biden carry VA in November.
Voting was open for delegates from Saturday afternoon until 7 pm tonight. Virginia has 5 DNC members and because the party requires a gender balance, that means we can either elect 3 men and 2 women or 3 women and 2 men. This is an important detail to understand what occurred.
When a state has an even number of DNC members elections are held separate by gender. For example when we had 4 it would be 2 men and 2 women and you’d vote for them in separate elections.
Once we went to 5 the method for election changed. Now you vote for 5 people regardless of gender and the top 2 men, top 2 women are elected along with top vote getter of either gender who wasn’t top 2 in their gender.
16 candidates filed- and they are marked by gender. For full disclosure this is how I voted. I voted for @atima_omara and @doriscmays in 2016, I know @delegateguzman well and I supported @dleichtman. I left one spot open as I didn& #39;t have a strong preference between candidates.
My vote was cast soon after voting opened on Saturday and since then I& #39;ve been working on other stuff and wasn& #39;t tuned into convention. So today at 2 pm I was surprised to get a "call me" text from one of the candidates. This was one of the people I had voted for.
I am being discreet in using names here because I think this type of behavior too often in party politics is used against people in their professional careers and I am trying to not be a part of that.
Anyway I happened to be napping at 2 pm, but when I woke up a little bit after 3 I called them back and was told the "situation was taken care of". What situation I asked?
The election was "close" between this candidate and one other- and so this candidate was making calls asking people to "bullet vote" for them. But enough people already had done so and this candidate was now confident they had a clear advantage so they didn& #39;t need more.
That means of course that somehow the results of the election were being seen before ballots were closed at 7 p.m. This is a huge security breech and I am not clear if party staff that had access was leaking the results or if someone had backend access.
I was appalled to have this person reach out to me and ask me to possibly change my vote because they knew the voting tallies before results were out to everyone. This is not a legitimate election, and it doesn& #39;t matter how many changed their vote and if it made a difference.
After receiving this call at 3:16, I attempted to call party staff and 3:19 and didn& #39;t get through. I spoke with one other person about the situation after that before I tried again- and successfully reached someone in the party at 3:43.
That party official assured me they would look into this confidentially and figure out where the leak was coming from and how it happened. Again, my goal has been to do this in a confidential way out of respect for the careers of those involved.
That call ended at 4 p.m. Within an hour- at 4:42 the candidate who had first called me asking me to potentially change my vote called me back again, and asked why I was "Stirring Up Trouble". That call lasted 43 seconds, as I told them I wasn& #39;t discussing further and hung up.
While this was ongoing I had found *another person* who reported the SAME CALL FROM THE SAME CANDIDATE asking them to change their vote.
I gave the party official I spoke to earlier a quick call back and let them know what I thought about them leaking my "confidential complaint" within an hour of it occurring. (Yes I cussed them out).
One thing that is important here- I am still not naming the candidate or official, because there will be future action regarding this and the names will be public soon enough. That is for their benefit- the point of confidentially complaining was so they could deal with this.
I have no problem with my name being associated with it, and I have all the receipts on my phone.
Meanwhile while this was ongoing, I found a THIRD person who reported these calls being made. In this case, this person was reporting it second hand but gave me the name and info for who received the call- and their account of the call closely matched the other two that went out.
So we now know of at least 3 of these types of calls that went out- but I& #39;m sure there were many, many more. Results of the election were somehow leaked to certain candidates and then those candidates were given a special opportunity to strategically get votes changed to win.
In addition there was also a race for Presidential elector where the party chairman was a candidate (and announced a "winner" tonight). Were results from that election also leaked? A full investigation from outside the party needs to take place to know what happened here.
But wait- there& #39;s more!
