It’s so interesting to see how little people really realize about sexual assault/rape. It’s not always as obvious and extreme as it’s portrayed on TV.
It’s not always being attacked by a stranger. Sometimes it’s someone you’ve already been with before, someone you trust, someone you’re dating or close to.
It doesn’t haven’t to be an obvious, big, terrifying fight. It can be so confusing and you can go months without recognizing what the situation really was.
And when you’ve already been with this person before or when months have gone by or when you still kept a relationship with them while denying what they did, it can seem pointless and impossible to say anything after a certain point.
These things don’t always feel clear cut. That’s why so many people go through it, so many don’t say anything, and so many abusers get away with it.
