A lesson from my father:

If there's an activity you don't want to do and are putting off (e.g. working out)

Do it for 10 minutes and stop if you still don't want to do it.

You'll find that the hardest part was not the activity itself.

The hardest part was just starting.
Lesson #2

Don't get greedy.

Take emotion out of decision making.

One split-second wrong move can bring years of pain and suffering.

It takes years to build something good.

Don't ruin it in the blink of an eye.

If you're winning,

Don't be afraid to pull out of the race.
Lesson #3

Nothing in life is free.

If it doesn't cost you anything monetarily,

It will cost you in time, attention, or energy.

Understand that all good things come from hard work.

There are not shortcuts in life.

If something is too good to be true,

Take the harder path.
Lesson #4

Take care of your family.

If you are the head of the household

And your family is broken

You're most likely the one who is weak and broken.

Don't neglect quality time with your loved ones for any reason.

Relationships are far more important than anything material.
Lesson #5

Don't lie.

It doesn't matter how little the lie is.

Lying is poison to your soul.

It prevents you from sleeping well every night.

It leeches you of maximizing the amount of positive energy you can put into the world.

Lying always catches up to you.

Choose honesty
Lesson #6

Don't rely on anyone but God and yourself.

No human is going to come save you.

The government won't save you.

Luck won't save you.

Random coincidences won't save you.

Hard work and ambition will get you to your goal.

Never deflect personal responsibility.
Lesson #7

Have good posture.

Don't slouch.

Keep your shoulders back and your head up.

Aside from physical benefits,

There is an abundance of mental and social benefits to having good posture.

People will perceive you how you carry yourself.

Fix your posture daily.
Lesson #8

Life is short.

Don't waste it doing unproductive things (e.g. waking up at noon, watching TV all day, never leaving the house).

Go out and go make an impact.

Never live your life looking back and being filled with regret.

Regret is always worse than failure.
Lesson #9

Have good manners.

Smile and greet strangers on the street.

Hold the door open for others.

Ask people how their days are going.

Say "please" if you ask something of someone.

Say "thank you" if someone helps you out.

Do good things without telling anyone.
Lesson #10

Live for something other than yourself.

The only way you will feel unfulfilled with your life is when you've lived selfishly.

That being said, you can't pour from an empty cup.

Make sure you fill your cup up so it overflows.

Create a ripple in the world.
