People seem to get that confirmed covid-19 numbers in the US are far from actual covid-19 numbers in the US (good start) but what is getting significantly less press is how so much of the reported covid-19 data is inaccurate because of profound neglect (that seems p deliberate!)

A particularly egregious example of this is in Mississippi, where cases are rising sharply, but their "legacy software suddenly stopped working" (biggest air quotes possible) ... so their health dept just ceased publishing detailed reports entirely on Thursday.

This is criminal.

Too many people still seem to think shitty covid-19 data collection is completely independent from politics, done entirely in good faith, and any discrepancies are honest errors. The president literally announced to the world last night how so much of this work is nefarious.
