And to this day we have the audacity, the sheer nerve to criticize them for not being able to get a leg up in life after we kicked it out from under them. It's an evil and disgraceful legacy that demands address.
How dare we? How dare we rig the game and then impugn the character of native peoples for not being able to win, try as they might playing by crooked rules? It's horrible and shameful.
White supremacy is cheating to get ahead and then calling everyone else inferior for not being as cutthroat as you were.
Imagine breaking into someone's house, stealing all their food and money and appliances, shooting their dog and busting their legs - and then clucking your tongue about failure just being in their nature and not yours.

That's colonialism.
It makes me so god damn angry and the irony is that my pasty complexion is an indelible access pass to a land of milk and honey acquired by centuries of thievery, abuse, and murder.
I can't opt-out of it but I can damn well call bullshit and insist those we took it from get their share. Because they fucking deserve better than they have.
These are difficult revelations to have, and made more difficult as they crash headlong into my personal anxieties and insecurity. But I consider it a duty to engage with, stagger and flounder as I might.
I think I would rather be a fuckup in the name of what's right than affluent in the name of what's wrong.
