Political Collage. A Thread. On Wednesday we were joined by @AnnaLiesching who presented a fascinating webinar on the history of collage as a political act. Anna set participants the challenge of creating their own politically inspired pieces using imagery from NMNI collection.
Lets start with our Youth Ambassador @NiamhKelly421 who created a number of striking pieces with powerful messages.
👏 Stunning work here from @NiamhKelly421
Last entry from @NiamhKelly421 Reflecting on the future of the planet🌎🌍🌏🌎🌍🌏
Amazing work Niamh
'Creeper' was designed by @HannahLizSharp This piece was designed while reflecting on bodily autonomy. Something which has been prevalent in local news recently. Fantastic use of layers and a strong message.
A strange dystopian bird ruled future was imagined by Isabella.

Youth Engagement Officer @smarttrumpet reflected on how difficult it can be to be politically motivated on a Sunday... with a little help from Lavery.
But remember it's a bag of cans not a bag of cants.
Firstly @ClaireMSilver used some clippings to make her Da a fathers day card.
But secondly and AMAZINGLY @ClaireMSilver made this CLASS collage stop motion.
Claire played around with images of Ulster Museums collection and magazine clippings to create a stop motion entitled ‘It’s Time.’ which reflects on a need for societal change.
@ohbysoso created 2 pieces "which act as an exploration of Jennifer Pozner’s book “Reality Bites Back: The Troubling Truth about Guilty Pleasure TV”. The 1st is called ‘botox’.
The 2nd is called ‘america: lettuce and diet coke’. When I’m sad I consume a lot of ‘reality’ media
@ohbysoso Cont. my go-to atm is Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. I watch it before I sleep. I now have dreams where I look in the mirror and see myself as a piece of meat and beg for freezing. I say things like “before I go stale” while I count my calories and steps.
There was no suggestion of how many images participants should create, but Maya went and made 10. TEN! Unreal! Each fantastic.
1. An observation of the events of May/June 2020 (2020)
2. Make love not War! (2020)
A class divide (2020)
Love is Love (2020)
The Feminist (2020)
Silence is Violence! Speak up! (2020)
The Modern Woman (2020)
Karen (2020)
A Peaceful Protest (2020)
Come join the Party (2020)

Absolutely incredible work from Maya and by all. Hope you've enjoyed these political collages 🖤
