As maturing black girls some of us were taught that premarital pregnancy is a curse that can transfer generationally. This conversation never acknowledged pregnancy as simply a natural consequence of sex which can often happen even when you've used contraceptives. 1/4
My issue is not only that, schools also centred heteronormative sex education on options available to prevent pregnancy during sex but no attention on what happens afterwards: what options are available for people when the condom breaks / when the contraceptive doesn't work ? 2/4
There's also stigma, that produces forceful abortions instead of abortions based on choice. 3/4
Reproductive justice is important not just in conversations about abortion, but in also how to support womxn &/ young girls in creating a society that does not present a thorny path for womxn with reproductive capacity. 4/4
