1/n #SadarPranam to Ishvara within u @Pawankhera Ji. Since u speak of Nehru Ji and 1962, I thought of sharing how @INCIndia messed Indo-Sino Border in this thread.

U may respond shud u hv enough substance. I'm citing from @CIA paper (1963). Don't respond until tweet reads n/n. https://twitter.com/Pawankhera/status/1273541375338835968
2/n 1950-51, Nehru had made it clear that it had no concern with Tibet, even though China entered Lhasa as well on Oct 26, 1951.

So, India had no objection to China inching closer.

You can also observe in this snippet, How China used to overpower Nehru's leadership.
3/n China considered the Indian Army weak.

Though the Indian army had movement in NEFA & established check-posts on the McMohan line but China didn't bother.

Peiping's asserts (People's Daily on Oct, 27, 1962 ) that this action was allowed to go unchallenged because:
4/n -China's security was seriously threatened" by the Korean hostilities is largely a post facto rationalization designed to magnify the military and aggressive nature of the Indian move in "forcibly pushing" the boundary up to the McMahon line.
5/n In 1958 when Former Burmese Premiere "Ba Swe" warned Nehru to be cautious over "Indo-Sino Border", Nehru replied by declaring Chou to be "an honorable man," who could be trusted.
6/n In December 1956 discussion, Chou stated his desire for issues of Tibet to remain autonomous, but Nehru showed no objection.
7/n Now let me tell you something interesting.

China always made Nehru fool claiming that their maps are based on old references. Nehru wasn't alert even of China's advances in Ladakh, although the construction of the road had started in March 1956 (through Aksai).
8/n It was only after a year after the beginning of construction in March 1957 that Peiping made Public Reports.

But that too wasn't enough to alarm Nehru.

On Sept 2, 1957, Peiping announced that the road would be completed in October. People's Daily published a sketch map.
9/n Though the map showed road following an alignment across the Northeast corner of Ladakh, which Indian Embassy reported to New Delhi. It stated that : the road apparently passes through Aksai Plain, which is Kashmir territory" but Nehru still was at peace.

His reply was WOW!
10/n Still Nehru said this in Parliament on August 31, 1959 (read snippet).

Instead of immediate questioning to China, he decides to send Recognisance Party in the coming summers to find the exact location of Road.

Can you beat that @Pawankhera ?
11/n This is a typo. Read it "August 31, 1958". https://twitter.com/Aabhas24/status/1274898057377640450?s=20
12/n Now this is quite interesting and imp to note.

Nehru sent the first Patrol team only in April 1958, a long time after Road's completion. When the team is caught, Peiping sends notes to Delhi on Nov 3, 1958, that: Patrol Members had entered Aksai (Chinese Territory).
13/n 8/11/1958,India: it is now clear that the Chinese Govt also claims this area (Aksai Plain) as their territory.

Things wud have been much diff @Pawankhera if Nehru would have reacted right way to the"People's Daily's Map" published on 2/9/1957
