some facts and history behind jimi hendrix’s iconic song: purple haze: a thread.
hendrix was toying around with new riffs when chas chandler ( producer ) told jimi "i heard him playing it at the flat and was knocked out. i told him to keep working on that, saying, 'that's the next single!'"
hendrix finished writing the song in the dressing room of a london club in 1966 before a show.
the band began to record the song in january of 1967 at the de lane lea studios in london. with this song, jimi wanted change. he claimed that previous songs released by the band
“that record isn't us.” he wanted to record original music and that’s what he was going for with-
purple haze. mitch and noel ( the bands drummer and bassist ) learned about the song one day in the studio when jimi came in and according to mitch “gendrix came in and kind of hummed us the riff and showed noel the chords and the changes. i listened to it and we went, ‘OK-
let's do it.' we got it on the third take as I recall." the basic track was record in about four hours with additional parts added later to the final master.
