I'm going to post the circumstances of every unarmed black person killed by cops in 2019. Ready? (thread)
1. Michael Dean. Shot on a traffic stop. Refused to take keys out of car. Officer reached in to remove keys himself and with his other hand holding the gun he accidentally fired a round that killed Dean. Officer charged with manslaughter.
2. Chris Whitfield. Was stealing from a store. Deputy approached him and shot. Deputy claims shooting was accidental, investigation revealed the same.
3. Atatiana Jefferson. Well known case. Went to her window holding a gun to investigate noises in her yard. Officer saw her in the window and fired. Officer has been charged with murder.
4. Melvin Watkins. Tried to break into a house. When officers arrived and ordered him out of his car he drove the car at the officers and was shot.
5. Channara Tom Pheap. Choked an officer and then stole his taser and used it on the officer and was shot. Officer was cleared of any wrong doing. Gee that sounds like a familiar scenario...
6. Josef Delon Richardson. Shot in a hotel room while police were serving a warrant. Very little information about the specifics on this one.
7. Ryan Twyman. When police approached his parked vehicle he quickly reversed and turned the wheel towards one of the officers, nearly running him over. The other officer, fearing for the safety of his partner, shot Twymam through the windshield.
8. Kevin Pudlik. Was passenger in a car wanted for a prior shooting. Driver led cops on a chase. Pudlik reached to the floor board several times. Car spun out. Officers approached on foot and driver gunned it at them. Pudlik was shot & killed. Gun/drugs found at Pudlik's feet.
9. Isaiah Lewis. Running naked through an apartment complex high on drugs. Ran into someone's apartment. Officers ran in after him. Officer tasered him twice to no effect. Isaiah beat the officer nearly unconscious before officer decided to shoot.
10. Marcus McVae. Career criminal. Organized crime kingpin. Prior violence towards officers. Fled on foot into a dark wooded area after leading troopers on a chase. Altercation ensued in the woods and mcvae was shot once.
11. Marzeus Scott. Suspect in a fight with a Co worker. Attacked officers who approached him. Witnesses who saw how violently Scott was attacking the officer said they didn't blame the officer for shooting Scott.
12. Kevin Bruce Mason. Previously shot officers in the 80s. Wanted for assault & believed to be armed. Threatened to kill officers if they came any closer to his house. Mason went out the back door and an officer fired at him. Mason went back inside & was found dead 2 hours later
13. Gregory Griffin. Fled from a traffic stop where an officer spotted a gun in the car. New officer joined the pursuit and exited his patrol car and shot at the moving vehicle. Griffin died. Officer charged with manslaughter.
14. Jimmy Atchison. FBI was serving a warrant on him for armed robbery. He fled his apartment and went into a woman's apartment. Woman called 911. Agent entered the apartment, altercation ensued, Atchison was shot.
But there's an "Epidemic" of police shooting unarmed black men for no good reason and getting away with it.
