Sometimes I forget that lots of people only recently started using Twitter for political content. Like maybe it used to JUST be bands and fandoms and now this is super wild for you folks.
This is specifically interesting on 8123 Twitter because we've gotten VERY political recently and a lot of you probably aren't used to that.
I'd argue it was SUPER necessary for folks in the 8123 community to get that wake up call. (If you're not sure why I'd say that, go read some of the commentaries from black fans)
When you're new to the world of political Twitter, you might feel like suddenly everyone is attacking you. The rest of us have had a long time to get accustomed to this. We have learned and adapted so that we don't get our feelings hurt when folks call us out or correct us.
I'm pointing this out mainly to say, I know it's hard to learn all of this at once and to suddenly feel called out in a space that didn't involve that before. But remember that it's not really about *you*, it's about making changes on a societal scale. You're one part of that.
Try to learn from people without taking it as an insult. Do the reflection they're requesting. Learn to manage your personal growth without feeling offended.
Some people are definitely being more aggressive with you folks than others. And it's definitely not easy. But we're not going back to creating a safe space for white fans who haven't done this learning yet *at the expense* of BIPOC.
If you have questions that you're scared to ask, I'm doing my best to cultivate a space where you can ask them! So feel free to reach out. But we don't get to walk away from this convo because it feels uncomfy for us.
Ending with this again. https://twitter.com/poetmaybe3/status/1274508971693531139?s=19
(because arguably, people who took a long time to wake up to this are our most valuable asset in figuring out WHY it takes so long and combatting that with better activism)
