I was planning on wishing everybody a happy Sunday but instead đź—ŁIMMA TALK ABOUT YOU, CONNIE.

“Professional”
“Simpler hair”
“Going to a nightclub”

“But you’re smart.”

Put that misogynoir down and go mind your unseasoned business.
I get these from time to time (another example below that makes NO sense) and I usually don’t share them. Because they don’t deserve the shine and TV is a privilege.

But let’s be very clear: the Black folks you follow, watch, RT or listen to are NOT objects. We are people.
I’m glad to see that so many black organizers, activists and thought leaders are being discovered and followed by new folks.

But news flash: we been here, and we are not vending machines or paper dolls.

We will not dispense answers on command & we will not dress up for you.
Chances are the folks you’re following now have written, spoken, and posted extensively on the work they do that you may just be coming around to. Do the research and honor their work enough to look for it before you ask them to repeat themselves.
And please know: me and these braids and this kinky ponytail (or whatever hair I got on today) and these colorful outfits and these Black lapel pins and these Black words coming from my mouth on TV are ALL on purpose.

If you’re uncomfortable, the problem ain’t mine.
So while we defund the police & fund communities, make sure you’re taking the time to divest from all the supremacy you’ve been breathing in.

It’s cancerous.
