Between 2004-2014 400 of the 618 First Nations were under a water advisory. As of 2019, some 100 First Nations are under an advisory at any given time.
52.2% of the kids in foster care are Indigenous but only make up 7.7% of the child population.

In Saskatchewan, 10,000 of the 11,000 kids in the child welfare system are Indigenous.
As of 2019, more than 100 Indigenous women have come forward to share their experiences of forced sterilization. This was a common practice in Canada from 1928-2018. Between 1970-1975, 1200 Indigenous women were sterilized.
30% of Canada’s prison population are Indigenous despite only being 5% of the population

According to the Native Women’s Association of Canada, only 53% of murder cases involving Indigenous women and girls have been solved. The national clearance rate for homicides is 84%.
Documents leaked late last year showed that the RCMP was prepared to use lethal force against land defenders protecting the Wet’suwet’en territory.

46% of Indigenous people in Canada are under the age of 25, while 30% of non-Natives are. There is a reason we say the youth are our future.
Things can be so bleak for us Indigenous folks, it can be hard to want to celebrate anything at all.

But do you know what is worth celebrating? Indigenous resistance. Indigenous resilience. This country has wanted us dead since it’s inception, but #wearestillhere
