I hear this comparison a lot: Keeping up statues of slave owners reminds people of the history like keeping up history from the Holocaust.
THIS IS NOT TRUE B/C:
1) We didn’t keep up statues of Hitler or Mengele or perpetrators of violence & HONOR THEM for what “good” they did
THIS IS NOT TRUE B/C:

2)The Jewish people got to decide how to tell their story. Because of Holocaust deniers & to b sure people NEVER FORGET we chose to keep @AuschwitzMuseum & other camps in existence....but we decided how to tell the story of what happened. Not from side of the Nazis. EVER.
In other words, history should not be shaped&taught by the abusers. Sure, it should be used to educate because it is important to understand & acknowledge & learn from, but the HOW is not up to the confederacy, just like it wasn’t to the Nazis.
