A [THREAD] on Morocco sending medical aid to fellow African countries
👇
Flashback: In April 2020, HM King Mohammed VI had two telephone conversations with Presidents HE Alassane Ouattara, of Côte d'Ivoire, and HE Macky Sall of Senegal, during which the Sovereign proposed the launch of an initiative by African Heads of State to counter coronavirus.
Despite Africa being being the least infected continent, it was essential to anticipate and provide the adequate framework and supplies to face the pandemic through its various phases.
Hence the importance of sharing best practices in fighting the coronavirus propagation and promoting cooperation to mitigate the health, economic and social impacts of the pandemic.
Morocco's response to the pandemic, thanks to HM the King's foresight and leadership, was praised for its global approach to effective management of the health crisis.
Morocco started producing its own medical equipment, ventilators and face masks, to secure self-sufficiency.
In line with His commitment to prioritise actions aimed at improving the common destiny of African countries, HM King Mohammed VI issued executive instructions to send medical aid to various brotherly countries to support their fight against the pandemic.
The medical aid consists of nearly 8 million facemasks, 900,000 face shields, 600,000 hygiene caps, 60,000 protective clothing and 30,000 litres of sanitisers in addition to 75,000 packs of chloroquine and 15,000 packs of Azithromycin.
First country to receive the aid was Mauritania, on June 14th.
Here is the @AFRICA24TV report about it:
Mauritanian Foreign Affairs minister HE Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed said the aid comes in "at the perfect time" and is testimony to the “strength of the remarkable relations between the two countries and the two brotherly peoples.”

The same day, another Royal Air Maroc flight landed in Dakar. The medical supplies were received by the Senegalese Minister of Health and Social Action, HE Abdoulaye Diouf Sarr in the presence of Secretary of State HE Moise Diegane Sarr.
