Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

A thread now I have finally had the opportunity to experience this film for the first time. I loved so much of it, but other areas of the film left me craving a little bit more so in this thread I hope to explain that.

#Godzilla | #KINGOFMONSTERS
Firstly and foremost: I LOVE how the titular character is handled in this film. Seeing more of the Hollow Earth and Godzilla's relationship with ancient humans was awesome.

I also love how we explore where he goes when we don't get to see him on screen.
I also ADORE getting to see more of Monarch in operation in this film.

The sequences with the USS Argo were awesome and I love some of the new Outpost locations which we are treated to as a part of this film. It really helped to ground how widely spread the Titans are.
I also thought the villain was well explored and had some interesting motivations to him.

You could tell he was manipulating and exploiting Emma - and his somewhat more cold and manipulative nature really became apparent in the latter half of the film.
My problems begin, however, with the start that we really didn't get enough time to explore all of this. I felt as though we didn't get the opportunity to deeply explore and therefore invest in his motivations - or the wider story at play here.
Chief amongst this poor pacing has to be the death of Vivienne Graham. Whilst I understand the intentional pacing here to make the death have a 'shock' impact, it ultimately felt as though we glanced past this moment.

This death didn't feel fitting for her character IMO.
I also was left wanting to explore more of the locations. The Antartica Outpost. The Outpost were Mothra was uncovered.

He felt as though we saw these locations but never spent any real time in them - and that, I feel, was detrimental to my overall enjoyment of the film.
Overall, the film was solid. There were some great set pieces and a clear motivation for the crux of the plot - but it just felt rushed at times, and that meant it didn't have the full impact I desired.

With that said, I am excited to explore the fallout in G v K.
