If we are talking about abolishing things that were created to defend slavery, we should also talk about the Senate and electoral college.
Our constitution is a compromise between freedom and justice for all and the power of the slave holders.

Our political system is still so unrepresentative and anti-democratic because it was designed to include the slave holding states.
The US is 13.4% black.

The US senate is 2% black.

#AbolishTheSenate
If we want our government to represent all the people, we need to fix our political system. Within the current constitution:

- Expand the House
- End the two party system with @fairvote's plan
- Add states to make the Senate more representative
- Abolish the electoral college
In the next ten years, the left and progressives should have a plan to hold a constitutional convention to re-write the constitution.

Right now, we'd get whooped by the right. But in ten years, we'll be better organized and bigger. It'll be time.
Our constitution was not designed to represent the will of the people or the rights of all. It still does not.

If we want a nation that provides freedom and justice for all, we will need a new political system that's designed for that purpose.

It can happen in our lifetimes.
