Ok so plate carriers.
To start here is how they should be fitting. Lots of folks tend to wear them too low, and with too much “headspace” in between the two bags. You want this to “feel” like it sits high. In fact i often have a hard time fitting my head through the PC.
Plate Carrier selection:
Big factor is “what are you using it for” nearly every carrier can be configured to be pretty slick. But keep in mind, if you need to be mobile, if your rolling heavy or if your rolling slick, you’re going to have to modify how you are running your rig.
AXL is an awesome brand that helps hybridize some of your PCs to fit other racks or rigs or enhance your PC. They hve some amazing stuff.
Plate carriers these days are built on a “shingle platoform” where you fan velcro and fastex buckle your rack onto your PC. The Haley Micro and the spiritus Micro fights are normally the ideal choice for these. But nearly every linked brand has their own style.
These shingles or placards make life easier too as so if you dont run a PC you can purchase fastex straps to run a chest rig without having to buy various systems for one or twl jobs.
Ok so fit and form. Next is “what do i put in this bitch”? Right? So MY personal preference is, 3 rifle mags on the front, 2 on the right cummerbund, my radios are on each side and my left side has a multi-use pouch for demo or nods.
I also have a velcro pack that i put odds and ends in. I have a BOK in my rear right. Nearly every stitch of MOLLE is used up. All in all i run, 5 mags, 2 radios, NODS/demo, Med, TAKPHONE. On my PC alone (we will talk belts soon)
I dont carry anything above my mags. And i dont run anything related to my sidearm on my PC. Remembering what your pulling off your body during stress aint work trying to jam a 9mm glock mag into an M4 Ive seen it. Keeping streamlines, and slim is key.
You’re biggest issue once you have everything set up is getting in and out of vehicles. Moving standing up is rarely an issue. But if you’re geared up with a rifle and a pistol getting out of a car, its an absolute pain. Work out your kit to when you can sit comfortably .
This is my no shit kit. Mags right, 3 center, radio, TQs, fanny sack and nods side pouch. Its a LOT of shit. But its easy to access and light.
Belts are next. Lemme smoke a cigar. Ill throw out what boots and gloves im wearing. Along with some good pant brands that dont make you look like you were dipped in 5.11z
