Something very fishy is up at Seaview. The big encroachment which you see on the beach is a building called Chunky Monkey. Inside the yellow circle are public toilets. Tractors constantly rake the sand about on that spot. What exactly are they trying to accomplish? #Karachi

Silly decorations dot the beach, while the loud smoke emitting tractors raking the sand not only disturb the peace of a natural open space, but also destroy the delicate ecology by preventing sand dune formation and killing marine creatures who live on the beach.

Seaview beach is home to delicate bubbler crabs. Here, a sweet soul covers his burrow just before the rising tide. Residents of the city have a callous disregard for this crab as they dump their sewage here, and on top of that drive loud buggies on the beach all day. #Karachi

These are sand dunes next to land claimed from the sea by DHA. They form a natural barrier and protect against storms. The plants are adapted to the harsh coastal conditions. They stabilise the soil and are an important habitat for insects, reptiles and small mammals #duneecology

Go to the far left of Seaview, and you’ll encounter these sand dunes. If only we allowed such dune formation at main Seaview! Give nature a chance, CBC! Please stop those buggies for joyrides, those tractors from mechanical raking and crushing plants and coastal wildlife.

Seaview beach is also home to the ghost crab. The crabs, about as big as your hand, painstakingly make their burrows in the sand, only to be crushed by those tractors. You can see them around Chunky Monkey as well. They’re struggling to survive. We just won’t let them.

All construction at the beach is on the habitat of our coastal wildlife. Dolmen Mall, it’s parking lot, McDonald’s, AK Khan park, Nishan-e-Pakistan decoration, Chunky Monkey, the new grass and palm trees planted next to Chunky Monkey during lockdown.. no sand dunes for us!

I’m sorry, crab. What we’re doing to you and your fellow critters is a crime against wildlife and the environment. We feel entitled to plant grass and palm trees on your home, build buildings to sell joras, burgers and arcade games, drive vehicles over you, we do not have a heart
