#WHUFC | 🔎 West Ham 0-2 Wolves - men vs boys. West Ham are back and so are our usual Sunday’s of disappointment. A tactical analysis of where it all went wrong for Moyes.

NB: pretty much everything. 👇🏼
Uninterested, abject, spineless. A few words to describe West Ham’s performance against Wolves yesterday. But where did it all go so wrong?

The main problem stems from West Ham’s hierarchy. Moyes did a good job at Everton, but the decision to re-appoint him was wrong.
Moyes’ record at West Ham:

W: 10 D: 12 L: 13

Win ratio: 28.57%

Just to put that into perspective, that’s worse than Avram Grant’s (31.91%) and Gianfranco Zola’s (28.75%).
Wolves were comfortable throughout. 58% possession and 10 shots shows who the real footballing team were.

Build-up play
• A key difference is West Ham’s lack of ball carrier from CB. Soucek is marked out of the game, Noble drops deep to act as the ball carrier.
•If you compare this to West Ham’s pressure who don’t close down Coady in numbers
1. West Ham’s highest attacking player (Lanzini) sits off Coady, allowing him time to find a pass
2. Saiss and Boly both come wide to present two additional passing options.
The introduction of Adama Traore was the difference. It goes without saying he can beat most defenders, but West Ham don’t help themselves here.

• Cresswell gets caught out of position.
• Traore spots the space.
• Cresswell’s failure to cover Fornals opens up space.
I wanted to highlight Raul Jiminez, Wolves’ top scorer this season.
1. Diop and Ngakia are seen doubling up.
2. Diop’s positioning gives Jiminez an advantage to anticipate the space in front of him.
3. The striker should be dealt with comfortably, with Rice marking Doherty.
Traore has 8 assists this season, mainly from crossing positions.
1. Diop anticipated Raul Jiminez to come in between him and Rice.
2. The Frenchman’s failure to look over his shoulder leaves Ngakia exposed, giving Jiminez space to operate.
There’s no taking away the quality of the cross, but how Jiminez found himself unmarked? I’ll never know.
• Ngakia’s inexperience left Diop to shoulder the responsibility.
• Diop failed to mark Jiminez closely, allowing Jiminez to operate the space and have a free header.
Moyes’ tactics here baffle me. West Ham are defending narrowly, allowing Wolves to utilise their threat from out wide where they’re most dangerous.
1.Cresswell comes in field, a position that Lanzini should cover with Soucek and Noble out of position.
2.Doherty takes advantage
West Ham’s lapses here are simple mistakes. Doherty has time to pick out the cross.
• Fredricks and Diop double up on Jiminez ➡️ this allows space in-behind Fredricks for Neto to get on the end of the cross.
West Ham should deal with this comfortably. Six in the box compared to 3. Fredricks comes tight to Jiminez ➡️ leaving space for Neto at the back-post.

The technique of the finish was outstanding, but it shouldn’t of happened in the first place.
Worst of all, check out the intensity here. West Ham are 2-0 down here with ten minutes to go, their PL status on the brink. No desire, effort or fight to get out of the predicament they’re in.
It’s now one win in 10 league games for Moyes’ side, who have taken five points from the last 30 on offer.

West Ham have some talented players, but they’re all in a disfunctional team that have no game plan or structure. Worrying times ahead.
