Women’s paid work is often championed bc it increases her *economy autonomy*.

Tho I’ve always stressed another aspect: expanding her *social networks*.

Otherwise women may seldom gather to share experiences, critique unfairness, realise alternatives

As in rural north 🇨🇳, 1980s
Relatedly, I’m often puzzled when studies on gender overlook *FEMALE FRIENDSHIPS*.

Whereas much ethnographic research suggests that through mixing & mingling, learning from others, feeling legitimised, women may be emboldened to contest gender inequalities, & push boundaries.
*leisure time* is another precondition for such association.

If women are burdened by paid work & care, if they have no time after work to be with their friends, & share concerns, then they may still be like,
