here’s a thread on how to stay safe during trades for villagers, items, and more!

basically i mostly trade through nookazon and discord (occasionally twitter) but here are some of my ground rules and things that i always keep in mind while trading!

1.) ALWAYS CHECK NOOKAZON REVIEWS! i cannot express this enough!!! simply by checking someone’s reviews on nookazon you can see if they’ve had shady behavior in the past such as scamming someone

2.) If someone is trading you a villager and refuses to send a picture of their character with the villager, they are most likely a scammer. Most scammers claim that they “are fr” but people have been scammed of MILLIONS of bells and NMT

3.) ALWAYS check the map of ur trading hosts island. This is if they are trading you a villager. Just to check that they aren’t lying, do a quick check of the map to see that ur villager is there :)

4.) Here’s what to do if someone ends the session after you’ve dropped your bells (and didn’t receive your promised item)

IMMEDIATELY press the sleep button on your switch. This will make a “communication error” happen between both parties and will return ur hard earned bells!

4 cont. this also applies to any other type of item in the game, no matter what it is the sleep button will go back to the last save data log of the game

5.) REPORT someone on the switch system if they have scammed you. there’s nothing you can lose by doing this since it alerts nintendo of this persons scamming qualities

6.) ALWAYS remember your settled and negotiated price. If you are the trade host and you agree on a certain price, sometimes the other trader will bring a lower amount trying to convince you it was different. This can also go the other way, but always keep a log of your prices :)

7.) for BIG trades (i’m talking RAYMOND or MARSHAL) you should RECORD the trade on your phone or other device. It is important to keep a log of WHO you are trading with in these circumstances and their complete username/discord tag. BIG trades can go wrong real quick.

8.) If you have a few trades going at once, you should make sure to remember who has come and who has gone. Sometimes people can wander into your island and destroy or loot it!
