A thread:
An essential part of gratitude is to understand "why" we should be grateful. When we don't understand and appreciate the value of something, that is when we begin to take it's worth for granted. To be grateful to God, we must understand ourselves. And to understand+
ourselves we must learn about ourselves. There's a verse in the Quran where Allah states, "we have created man in the best of forms"(95:4). It's impossible to be in medicine and study closely the body, the visceras and not be left completely mesmerized and awestruck.Indeed we've+
been created in absolute perfection. From the physiological function of cells, nerves, vessels, veins to the complexity of the organs inside us one cannot help but marvel at just how truly perfect God created the human being. +
In the Islamic faith tradition, from the statements of the prophet(s), the human heart has been described as one of the most remarkable parts of creation; for it is a vessel that controls nor just our physical but emotional, spiritual and psychological states as well. +
For most of us, we'll only have one heart our entire lives. This organ that is the size of our fist and weighs less than 1 pound will beat about 115,000 times each day, our whole life without our knowledge and most certainly with the permission of God.+
It will pump about 2000 gallons of blood everyday. Most of us just know about the pumping of the heart but fail to understand that there is an entire "electrical system" that controls the rhythm of our heart.
To show how harmoniously we were created, it's one of the organs+
that can be transplanted into another human being to save their life. A miracle of miracles.
So truly "which of the favours of your Lord will you deny?"
