1/7 What is this "Juneteenth" people keep talking about?

It's a day so many people (myself included) tragically hadn't heard of until 45 tried to schedule a campaign rally on it, in a city with a history of horrible racial injustice.
2/7 Here's a thought... what if ALL employers gave their non-white staff (and only their non-white staff) Juneteenth off as a paid holiday?
Maybe even a federal holiday? It has way more relevance than most (if not all) of the holidays we have now.
3/7 Heck, if I thought people would go for it I'd suggest every white person making $20k+/year not get paid that day, and the money instead be spread among every non-white person on staff as a bonus.

I say this as one of the white people who'd be "losing" "my" money this way.
4/7 "Oh, but it wouldn't be FAIR for them to get a day off while us white folks have to work like normal or for free! That's racist!"

It's not so fun thinking about the shoe being on the other foot, is it?
5/7 What if the scenario in post 3/ happened every day?
6/7 What if working for nothing was every day for you? AND for your siblings, your parents, your kids (if they lived long enough), and your spouse?

What if it was that way for generations, being treated more like animals than equals? For black people this isn't hypothetical.
7/7 Now what if one day you found out you and your family didn't have to live that way anymore?

I'd call that a day worth celebrating.

We white folks should be SUPPORTING our black sisters and brothers, not debating whether it's polite to say they matter. #BLM #JUNETEENTH2020
8/7 I work a food delivery job, so my pay is extremely variable from day to day. But whatever I make today I'll donate that amount to a legal defense fund for BLM protesters. I haven't chosen which one yet, but when it's done I'll add a pic of the receipt screen to this thread.
9/7 ReceiptS I should say, in that same post I'll have a screenshot of how much I made, for transparency's sake.
