Fernando Gomes: the most overlooked striker ever
Fernando Gomes made his debut for FC Porto in 1974, and played most of his career there. He bagged an incredible 420 goals in 609 games, winning 5 league titles, 3 cups, 3 supercups, 1 UCL, 1 european supercup and 1 CWC.
He dominated the striker position in the early 80s along with Kenny Dalglish, having won 2 European golden boots (1983 and 1985) and coming second 4 times in that award.
And altough he may be overlooked due to the league he played in, remember that at that time the portuguese league was just as competitive as all other leagues excluding the english league. This is also valid for eastern european leagues that have lost recognition.
He was a key part of FC Porto's 1987 European cup winning run and so he occupies a crutial place in the club's history, given that it was this generation that established the club as an european giant.
Overall, he is by no means a GOAT contender and maybe not even the best player of the 80s but should nevertheless be given more credit and recognition than he does (I bet most people reading this thread didn't even know him).
