... We live in a country in which differences run deep. That's neither surprising nor a bad thing. If anything, we should be MORE worried if there isn't a diversity of opinion. When it comes to subjects like law, politics, economics and philosophy, robust debates are key...

... No one is entitled to having their worldview affirmed. Ever. The only thing each of us is entitled to in public debate is to be treated with dignity by an interlocutor. Many South Africans don't know the difference, still, because debate skills are generally quite poor ...

... and the consequence of varying standards of critical reasoning and debate is that we confuse, at times, disagreement with being disrespected. The opposite problem is also undesirable- being too differential to someone you like or respect uncritically...

As for talk radio, I am enormously grateful to always have had station managers, up until today, who rightly hired me to be authentic rather than to game. That is not true at all media companies, so I want to thank every station manager who has hired me as a talk radio host...
