You know what’s a problem? That I did not really know what Juneteenth was until maybe two or three years ago.

The reality is that Black history is both a precursor to and foundation of American history but so much of it is omitted from what many of us are taught in school.
Every single system in America is designed to minimize and discredit the experience of Black lives and make it harder for fellow Black Americans to have the same opportunities as white and non-Black “minorities.”
The only proof you need that systemic racism is deeply embedded into the way this country operates is the fact that America’s response to having 8 years of Barack Hussein Obama as its leader was to elect Donald Trump.
America as a whole needs to acknowledge the persistence of its racist roots and then tear the entire goddamn system up because more than anything else right now #BlackLivesMatter and that sentiment is not reflected in any of this country’s institutions.
