So I’m hearing Song 33 by Noname. I understand Coles perspective as well as hers. (A Thread)
Noname POV - I feel like she’s expressing a level of importance in a number of issues that have been surrounding black culture for years; both in America and in the black community.
Noname POV - I feel like she’s expressing a level of importance in a number of issues that have been surrounding black culture for years; both in America and in the black community.
She expresses a level of representation & education; rather lack thereof; among our own people relating to the current timeline. She subliminally expresses her disposition of us as Black Men contributing to the problem as well as not doing enough to be apart of the solution.
Some examples:
Numerous Black Women in America have been murdered at the hands of police brutality
Trans Women are being killed at the hands of our own men
Black women are domestically, and physically abused, disrespected, raped, etc. at the hands of our own black men

This is inferred from her lyric ‘I saw a demon on my shoulder, it’s lookin’ like patriarchy’, expressing that all that’s happening to women and Black Women around the world are at the hands where men in general, have contributed towards it. And I agree.
I think Her repetition in the hook ‘one girl missing, another one go missin’ expresses her level of exhaustion and pain itself.
The level of assertion in her disposition becomes known in her lyric ‘but niggas quiet as a church mouse... I guess his ego hurt now”. why you ask?

It’s just as the lyric said, niggas are quiet. When it’s time to really stand up for Black Women, Black Men are seated. Not only are we seated, but we have been the actions and voices that have fueled the fire. From rape, murder, sexual harassment as well as others.
Through a number of issues that were expressed so far, she [noname] goes further to express her level of being fed up by responding back to J.Coles “snow on tha bluff” song and lyrics on “ego” & “tone”. Black women express their pain regarding the actions of Black Men (cont.)
And BW as always feel like their voices & issues are disregarded.
Example? Worrying about abolishing the police (not bad but focus on more than just that)
Instead of trying to understand WHY BW are saying what their saying, NIGGAS is wrapped up in WHAT & HOW it’s said.

Finally, she leads with a following lyric, ‘wow look at him go...write about me when the world is in smokes?’
Not only did I interpret this as an obvious jab to my man Cole. But I also interpreted it as Black men being worried about the wrong shit rn. Like ego and tone.

Last thing. Educating. Instead of worrying about what is said & how. We need to understand WHY. We need to educate ourselves and be aware. We cannot call ourselves leaders, protectors, providers, etc. being ignorant. Knowledge is important. BM in short, niggas gotta step up.
J. Cole POV - I talked on this yesterday. But let’s put in one thread why don’t we. (If you’re here at this point. I really fwy, you’re open to information)
Realistically I think Cole and Noname actually have similar views. There are a couple however that he points out tho.

J. Cole has been in the forefront of representation for the Black Commuty concerning numerous issues. From songs about it to protesting.
From the jump of Cole’s “Snow on tha Bluff” shows him acknowledging that he’s not the most educated around certain issues currently.

Moreover that, he recognizes and understands Black Women’s pain currently. (Or does he?)
In the song, Cole immediately recognizes the issues of a BW by stating them (listen to the song)
Few seconds into the song is where the differences lie.

He comes across someone’s timeline of her disposition towards Black America rn and thinks that one of the individuals she’s talking about is him.
Cole expresses “just cause you woke and I’m not, that shit ain’t no reason to talk like you better than me”. This is the ego.

Again we just discussed that ego ain’t the shit to worry about rn bruh. It’s just not lol. However from this lyric, Im inferring that the individual said some choice words to make Cole feel like this; a minute point. (my-noot)
This leads into his next lyric that I agree with. “How you gon’ lead when you attacking the very same niggas that really do need the shit you be sayin....help get us up to speed”
In short, I feel like Cole is expressing a counterproductive instance.
In short, I feel like Cole is expressing a counterproductive instance.
How can you disrespect, or belittle the very same ignorant individuals who actually NEED to hear the knowledge you have, to understand and be aware of the current issues?
Many individuals may be thinking “Black Women are hurting, & you’re concern about your own feelings?!”
Many individuals may be thinking “Black Women are hurting, & you’re concern about your own feelings?!”
And look listen, if that is the case, I understand. Our Queens are HURTING and we [Black Men] ain’t doing shit or enough. However, you cannot hope to express your issues, hurt & break down individuals, AND have them side with you in the healing process of issues at the same time.
I also agree with Cole when he talks about talking to ppl that believe what you already believe. This is good, but when Jesus sought disciples, he didn’t look for individuals like him. But people that NEEDED IT AND WERE DIFFERENT FROM HIM.
Shit running outta tweets.
That brings me to my next question. BLACK WOMEN, it is NOT YOUR JOB TO EDUCATE ANYONE. ITS NOBODYS JOB! But I ask, if it meant bringing unity to allow individuals to fight for the issues you experience, then why not educate those who want and need it?

At the end of the day, everyone has choices:
educate others, help, etc.
It’s not a competition of whos hurt more. Inflicting pain to communicate your level of pain is counterproductive. It divides us all within our community. Especially when we don’t need that shit rn.

Like Cole said: “I look at freedom like trees, you can’t plant a forest overnight...plant your seeds”
With that being said:
MEN STOP WAITING FOR WOMEN TO DO SHIT. STOP WAITING FOR WOMEN TO BE HURT AT THE HANDS OF ANOTHER MAN FOR YOU TO DO SOMETHING THERE ARE ISSUES BW (cont.)

EVERYDAY. TAKE INITATIVE. STOP WAITING FOR WOMEN TO SAY SHIT BEFORE YOU DO SOMETHING. LEAVE YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR.
Women are attracted to (don’t bash if wrong
) PEOPLE WITH A DIRECTION WHO CAN LEAD.
My business taught me this: a POSITION don’t make you LEADER.
NEITHER DOES YOU being a male.
If you can’t provide. Dont call yourself one.
If you can’t protect. Don’t call yourself one.

If you read all of this I really fwy. On a serious note. Got any views or different POV? Man I’m open to it.
I’ll end with this:
Men we gotta be accountable. Gotta respect, uplift and protect more than just the women we know. Our women are yelling cause they’re hurt.

If your niggas doin some janky ass disrespectful shit to women. Then as a MAN, speak tf up. That could save a young lady’s life. You not saying shit makes you apart of the problem. If you cover for your niggas knowing they doing shit and you turn a blind eye. You not a man.
