There have been, and are going to be, a lot more crowdfunded campaigns and shop offerings for sharp edge dice that will be called "handmade". While it may be true that these dice are poured and finished by hand, a lot of sets using this description are made in factories (1/)
You can look on places like Alibaba now and see some examples, even sets using popular inclusions like metallic leaf, black swirls, and iridescent film. A lot of these dice, when they hit the market, are going to be cheaper than your'e used to seeing. (2/)
For me, the term "handmade" means I am in charge of every single aspect of the process. I make my own molds, I pour each set individually by hand. I trim them, polish them, paint them, photograph them, make listings for them, and share them on social media (3/)
I don't know if another term should be developed for us one man band shops, but the person you talk to and interact with here is the ONLY one who has any involvement in the dice sold on http://fantasyfigments.com . It's just me. (4/)
I love what I do, both creating dice and character artwork for people who create and play in their own worlds. I put care and attention to detail into everything that passes through my hands. Factory production adopting popular product trends isn't new, of course. (5/)
Perhaps we'll see a trend by necessity of smaller shops like mine switching to making more custom commissioned designs. Just like some people are fine pulling character artwork from pinterest, others want something fully custom to match what they imagine for their character. (6/)
All of this to say, those of us running our own businesses are endlessly appreciative of the support from those who choose to pay a higher price tag to get a product from us and support what we do. I understand it's not in everyone's budget, though. (7/)
Maybe those mass produced dice will be your chance to add a set of your dreams to your collection, and that would make me happy! Everyone should be able to have the TTRPG experience they dream of when they sit at that table/desk/computer. (8/)
All this to say, if it matters to you where your dice are coming from, know that every single set sold by me (and many of my fellow single artisans) is made by someone who understands how important those adventures and the people you take with you on them truly are. (9/)
Thank you, first of all for reading all of that but always for your support, chats, and interactions with the things I've created. Those things are more valuable than gold. đź’– (10/10)
