Today is Juneteenth. It should be a national holiday.

Just as Americans learn the history of July 4, understanding and celebrating Juneteenth is a critical part of American history.

The Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863, but it did not end slavery immediately.

The history of slavery is painful, but that& #39;s exactly why we need to make sure Americans are aware of it.

Like the fact that even in "free" states like California, slavery was still practiced.
