just letting you know it's okay if you weren't really hip to juneteenth until very recently. you're not alone, no matter what your timeline tells you.

and for white people awkwardly trying to figure out what they're supposed to do on juneteenth, the answer is always "make a brisket."

one quick thought on the idea of making juneteenth a holiday...

i remember my dad saying he only cared but so much about making martin luther king's birthday a holiday. cuz whether it was a holiday to them, it was a holiday to him, and he was gonna take it if he wanted to.

which is to say, i don't care that much about juneteenth being validated by the state. never needed it before. don't need it now. guess it's cool to have or something like that, but really not necessary.
